...enriching
lives by encouraging academics
"Education
has for its object the formation
of character." Herbert Spencer,

Each year, SHELTER 37 adopts a
southern California school to provide
an academic enrichment, tutoring
and mentoring program. Quarterly
awards are presented to the students
for academic achievement. In addition,
professional athletes are brought
in to provide motivational speaking
to the students, furthering the
message that education is critical
to success.

SHELTER 37
...enriching
lives by teaching life skills
"Failure
to plan is a plan for failure."

SHELTER 37 has created a program
called "Goals for Life"
that is taught in 24-weeks to around
20 elementary and middle-school
children that have been selected
to participate. Professional athletes
are brought in to school to lead
such topics as time management,
goal setting, attitude, and self-esteem.
These essential life skills provide
the missing pieces in these at-risk
kids lives that will help them reach
their unlimited potential even in
an otherwise difficult environment.

SHELTER 37
...enriching
lives by envisioning a goal for
the future
"It's not how you start,
it's how you finish."
James Washington
"I'm going to college!"
Too often, the goal of college is
not even a part of an at-risk kid's
dreams. SHELTER 37 seeks to change
that. Each year, over 5,000 southern
California youth are given the opportunity
to attend a home UCLA football game
at the Rose Bowl. Being in a college
environment, even at a sporting
event, may be all the motivation
a teen needs to set his/her goals
toward higher education. SHELTER
37 hopes to increase those numbers
to upwards of 10,000 kids by 2008.
